VENUE & ACCOMMODATION

The 6th International EPNOE Junior Scientist Meeting 2024 will be held at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, BOKU, Vienna (Austria).

Vienna, the heart of Europe, is a city, where academic excellence intertwines with cultural grandeur, creating an unforgettable experience for conference attendees. Here is why it stands out as the perfect host for the next EPNOE meeting:

  • Historical Grandeur: The city’s iconic landmarks, such as the Schönbrunn Palace and Hofburg Imperial Palace, offer a unique blend of culture and academia.
  • Cultural Hub: Beyond its scientific prowess, Vienna is a haven for art and music. Dive into the world of Mozart, Beethoven, and Klimt during your conference breaks, or unwind at one of the renowned coffeehouses where intellectual conversations have thrived for centuries.
  • Green Oasis: Vienna’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its lush parks and green spaces. Take a breath of fresh air at the Prater or relax by the Danube River at Danube Island, providing the ideal environment for fruitful discussions and networking.
  • Culinary Delights: Take yourself to a gastronomic journey through Vienna’s diverse culinary scene. From traditional Austrian cuisine to international flavors, the city’s restaurants suit to every palate.

More information about Vienna can be found here.

Venue

Please note that the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) has several locations, including campuses at Türkenschanze, Muthgasse and Tulln.

The conference will take place at Muthgasse 18 (MUG2) in the 19th district of Vienna (1190 Vienna), just next to the U4 subway final stop Heiligenstadt.

How to get there?

ARRIVAL BY AIRPLANE

When you arrive at the Vienna International Airport (Wien Schwechat) you will be in the Bundesland (Federal State) of Lower Austria, about 15 kilometers south of Vienna. Further information about the airport is available online here.

There are several possibilities to reach the city center:

Bus: Regular bus transfers take you from the airport to the city center (Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz, Westbahnhof). The ride takes about 20-45 minutes depending on traffic. You can buy a ticket from the driver (cash) or online. For more information, read here.

Railway (S-Bahn 7): The S-Bahn stops in Wien Mitte-Landstraße (subway lines U3 and U4; railways; buses; trams), Praterstern (subway lines U1 and U2; railways; buses; trams), Handelskai (subway line U6; railways; buses) and Florisdorf (subway line U6; railways; buses; trams). A ride takes 20-45 min depending on your destination. For more information, read here.

City Airport Train (CAT): The CAT is the fastest and most expensive public transport connecting the airport to Wien Mitte-Landstraße (subway lines U3 and U4; suburban railways; buses and trams). For more information, read here.

Taxi: The Airport Map shows the exact position of the cab stand. The fleet of cabs also includes environmentally friendly hybrid vehicles. For more information, read here.

ARRIVAL BY TRAIN

Hauptbahnhof (Vienna Main Station): Many trains from southern and eastern Europe arrive at the new main station (Hauptbahnhof). The main station is located at the subway station “Südtirolerplatz” (underground line U1). Tram D takes you directly to the center (Karlsplatz with connections to underground lines U1, U2 and U4). Furthermore, you can take tram O and 18 (to “Westbahnhof”) or the buses 13A and 69A.

Wien Meidling: If you arrive at the train station Wien Meidling, you can travel further with the underground line U6.

Westbahnhof: Many trains from Western or Northern Europe arrive at “Westbahnhof”. From there, you can take the underground lines U3 (orange) and U6 (brown) as well as trams 5, 6, 9, 18, 52 and 58.

ARRIVAL BY BUS

The main bus station for big bus carriers is located in Erdberg, where you can get on the underground U3 (orange). Travel in the direction of “Ottakring” to reach the city center.

ARRIVAL BY CAR

Parking in Vienna: Short term parking zones and garages

Wiener Linien: Vienna City Lines (prices and tickets)

CONFERENCE DINNER

The Conference Dinner will take place at Fuhrgassl-Huber, a typical Viennese “Buschenschank” wine tavern in the middle of the Viennese vineyards. It is located in the heart of Neustift am Walde, between vineyards and the Vienna Woods. With cozy rooms, excellent wines and the romantic inner courtyard, Fuhrgassl-Huber is one of the most popular wine taverns in Vienna.

The tavern can be reached within 25-30 minutes by public transport from the conference venue (direct bus stop in front of the restaurant). More information here.

Accomodation

Vienna is a popular destination chosen both from tourists and conferences’ hosts, and as such, it offers a wide range of hotels catering to various budgets and preferences.

We can recommend a hotel in close proximity to the conference venue that also offers special prices for conference participants. The number of rooms is limited; therefore, it is on a first-come first-serve basis.
