Hao Zhang is a project coordinator and a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Natural Materials Technology (NMT) at Åbo Akademi University, Finland. His work focuses on the design, fabrication and characterization of biomass-derived materials for sustainable energy storage as well as well as photosynthesis cell-driven and bio-based routes to electricity and chemical production. At NMT, he contributes to projects such as CIMANET, SUSTEC, S2B, Photo-e-Mat and Photofactory, advancing eco-friendly electrodes and electrolytes, and developing 3D printed hydrogels-cyanobacterial cells systems from renewable resources. He has co-authored publications, supervised students, and engaged with industry partners. He has selected to present in the Marcus Wallenberg Prize (MWP) Young Researchers’ Three Minute Thesis (3MT) challenge and attended the Prize ceremony in Stockholm—held in the presence of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Sweden. Within the EPNOE community, he is committed to fostering collaboration among early-career researchers and highlighting the role of polysaccharide-based materials in next-generation energy technologies.
