Cellulose

Cellulose is the most widespread polysaccharide in Nature. It forms the primary structural component of plants and is made of repeated units of the glucose monomer. It is not soluble in water and not digestible by humans although eating long fibres of cellulose is good for health.

Cellulose occurs naturally in pure form only in cotton fibres. Some animals, particularly ruminants and termites, can digest cellulose with the help of some micro-organisms.
