Laboratory for Characterisation and Processing of Polymers - University of Maribor, Slovenia
Description of the LCPP:
The LCPP team performs extended analyses of polymers, manly polysaccharides with the accent on fibre forming polymers. Research targets are the structure of natural and synthetic polymers, modification of polymer surfaces and bulk materials and the evaluation of the influence of different processing parameters on structural changes, and consequently, on technological and applied properties of fibres.
Description of the polysaccharide research activities:
- Investigation of interactions at oriented polymers (fibres) surfaces (accessible groups, interaction with specific compounds, ion exchange capacity and the progress of technological processes during the manufacturing)
- Fibre surface properties characterisation (surface morphology, streaming potential, surface charge, specific dissociable groups, pK values, contact angle, fibre surface free energy, adsorption kinetics)
- Fibre surface modification (thermal, chemical, plasma, sol-gel surface coating, incorporation of nano-particles, PS binding onto oriented structure surfaces i.e. fibres, foils, films) in order to achieve special properties
- Conventional analyses of textile materials in any form (fibres, yarns, and 2D textiles)
