Description of Research Institute of Textile Chemistry and Textile Physics - Christian-Doppler Laboratory for Textile and Fibre Chemistry in Cellulosics:
The research institute focuses on fundamental and applied research in textile chemistry and textile physics. 20 researcher are working an different fields of scientific activity with particular concentration on the field of cellulosic fibres and textiles.
Main expertise is on textile chemical processing, chemical modification of textiles, physical properties of fibres and textiles including product development and scale up to industrial scale.


Description of the polysaccharide research activities:

  • Physical and chemical properties of man-made cellulosics (viscose, lyocell)
  • Natural cellulose fibres (cotton, flax)
  • Processing of cellulose fibres (dyeing, finishing, chemical modification)
  • Enzymatic treatments
  • Product properties, performance tests and consumer oriented properties



Main pieces of equipments:
Textile dyeing and finishing equipment (exhaust and continuous), Climate chambers
Analytical tools: FTIR, ISEC, Photometers including diffuse reflectance, Colour measurement, Cyclic voltammetry, Streaming-Potential measurement, Nitrogen-Analyser
Textile physical and chemical testing methods
