Description of ARMINES-C2MA:
ARMINES-C2MA is part of the ARMINES research centers dedicated to materials science. About 80 people including 30 PhD students contribute to its expertise on processing, thermal, mechanical and physical chemistry of cement and polymer materials. Activities are organized into three research department: “Advanced Polymer Materials (MPA)”, “Materials and Structures for Civil Engineering (MSGC)” and “Materials and Environment interactions (RIME)”.
The “Advanced Polymer Materials” Department of ARMINES-C2MA has a renowned expertise in the processing and characterization of innovative (bio)polymer blend and nano(bio)composite materials. Research activities focus on the understanding of relationships existing between their processing, microstructure and functional properties. Particular emphasis is placed on the valorization of bio-based and renewable resources as well as wastes from agro resources to develop new bio-based composite structures, and on the improvement of their mechanical and thermal properties in service life and under severe conditions, in particular environmental ageing (moisture, temperature, UV exposition, solvents) and fire conditions. To this aim, ARMINES-C2MA has developed specific characterization skills by means of innovative coupled environmental / mechanical ageing tests, non-destructive and in-situ mechanical testing, and on the modification and characterization of the filler/matrix interface which is a key parameter in the development of composite materials.
